About Llyndy Llamas

I'm Lynn. Originally from the UK and now living in New Zealand.

I had my first interaction with a llama in 1999 with Queenstown Llamas. I was hooked withing the first few minutes.

I learnt heaps about these magnificent creatures while working with Alistair, who ran a trekking business. We travelled the South Island doing demos and training help.

On my return to the UK after my OE, I invested in some llamas and started a llama trekking business with My sister Mandy Ly (Lynn) ndy (Mandy). this was very successful and we sold the business when I decided to emigrate to New Zealand.

Over here I ran a very successful Trekking business with my now ex-husband. He has continued with Kaikoura Llama Trekking while I have moved deeper into the breeding and training of llamas with my new partner Pete.

In 2021/22 we were given the honor of continuing with Keith Paynes llama and Guanaco breeding herd ' Big Ears Llama Ranch', while he took a step back.

Keith has worked very hard to breed back to the original breed type, 'what llamas should be'. And also breeding pure Guanacos.

Over the decades, llamas have been cross bred with alpacas to create a heavier coated llama. This has resulted in a decline of the traditional working ccara  llama. A short wooled, double coated low maintenance, strong working llama. To do this, Keith travelled around NZ and bought, and DNA tested the best true type he could find, along with some Guanaco.

The resulting generations of breeding have produced stunning well conformed llamas and guanacos. half of these girls and boys are now in our herd. This Guanaco herd is the largest outside of South America.
